Cantor Alexandra Fox joined Peninsula Temple Sholom in the summer of 2018. She brings to PTS her passion for connecting Jews to one another through music and prayer, and believes in the power of music to foster a community that inspires, comforts, uplifts, and heals.
Cantor Fox has extensive musical training; she holds a bachelor of science in music from Hofstra University, a Masters of Sacred Music from Hebrew Union College – Jewish Institute of Religion, and received cantorial ordination from HUC-JIR in May, 2018.
While in cantorial school, Cantor Fox discovered her deep love for pastoral work through her work as a chaplain intern at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. Her experiences there led her to write her thesis and perform her senior recital, titled Ahavah Nitzchit – Love Doesn’t Die, on how Jewish music can help a family through the death of a loved one. Cantor Fox’s cantorate, through her research and life experiences, has come to be inspired by helping people make meaning during the most fragile moments of life.
