Dear congregants --
As a San Bruno resident, I can tell you first hand that this has been a tragic event for our community. The fire occurred only six blocks from my own home, in the Crestmoor neighborhood where my son attends school.
In fact, on Labor Day, Joanna and I took a leisurely walk from our house down the same streets where this fire occurred. It is a quiet, residential area no different from streets in Burlingame, Millbrae, and other Peninsula towns where our PTS members live. We could never have imagined something like this could happen.
When we first heard of the fire and explosion, PTS responded immediately to ensure that all of our members were okay. I want to commend Rabbi Feder and Amy Mallor, who worked tirelessly and promptly toward this end. We have been in touch, directly or indirectly, with every PTS resident of San Bruno. Thankfully, they are all physically safe.
While the news reports continue to provide updates of the harms inflicted and damage sustained, it is very clear that this tragedy will have a profound impact on our community for years to come. Joanna and I invite your help in two ways.
First, please consider making a tax deductible donation to our PTS emergency relief fund. One hundred percent of such donations will be used to help impacted San Bruno families. Please send your checks to the temple office, made payable to "Peninsula Temple Sholom" and please indicate "San Bruno Relief" somewhere on the check.
Second, Gail Karp, of our social action committee, has agreed to lead our efforts to mobilize our volunteer efforts. We will soon provide further information about ways to get involved.
Thank you for your support. Shana Tova.

If you donate by check, 100% of the funds will go to San Bruno families. You can also donate by credit card; a congregant has offered to cover the cost of the credit-card fees, so 100% of your donation will go to the families.
