Meet our Rabbinic Intern, Rebekah Stern
Born and raised in Albany, Calif., Rebekah Stern has always hoped to return to the Bay Area following her rabbinic studies at the Hebrew Union College. She is thrilled to have the opportunity to come home one year early in order to serve as Peninsula Temple Sholom's rabbinic intern. Rebekah will be joining us in August.
Rebekah grew up at Congregation Beth El in Berkeley, and over many wonderful summers at camp and school years in the religious school she learned that she was particularly drawn to Judaism through music. This attraction eventually led her, as an undergraduate at UC Berkeley, to learn to play the guitar and then to songlead. She worked as a service leader and songleader in the Reform minyan at Berkeley Hillel, and at several Bay Area religious schools, synagogues, and camps.
Rebekah is in her final year of her rabbinic studies and will be ordained in May 2011. Over the course of her tenure at HUC she has earned a Master's in Hebrew Letters and a Master's in Jewish Education. While she has enjoyed all of her courses, Rebekah has discovered in herself a particular passion for biblical literature. This year she will be completing her rabbinic thesis on the biblical books of Ecclesiastes and The Song of Songs.
Rebekah is returning to the Bay Area with her husband Sean, brand new baby daughter Leora, and dog Judah. She is looking forward to a rich and wonderful year of learning and spiritual growth ahead at Peninsula Temple Sholom.

Home and Hope!
We are currently recruiting volunteers to provide homeless families with meals, encouragement, friendship and support at local synagogues and churches. Whether you can assist with cooking a meal, serving a meal, helping with homework, playing games or staying overnight, we encourage you to volunteer in any capacity.
This Board-approved program is called Home and Hope (formerly Interfaith Hospitality Network). It serves as a temporary housing for 14 people/families on a weekly rotating basis. With 29 congregations participating, Home & Hope offers 5,000 shelter bed nights and 15,000 meals each year.
Looking for a job? Looking for employees? The PTS Employment Network is there for you. By maximizing appropriate connections within our PTS family, our goal is to help PTS members who are under/unemployed to get back to work.

At PTS, Solar Power is Soul-ar Power
Over 30 years ago, Rabbi Gerald Raiskin z''l had a simple vision: Install a solar power system to power the light of PTS's Nair Tamid - our eternal flame. While the technology wasn't ready at that time, Rabbi Raiskin's vision endured. Today, a state-of-the-art solar electric system has been installed at PTS.
