Welcome to Peninsula Temple Sholom. PTS is a warm, welcoming and vibrant congregation. We hope you will consider becoming a part of our future.
Who Joins Peninsula Temple Sholom? PTS is a family-oriented synagogue in the suburbs of San Francisco. Our members reflect the diversity of life on the Peninsula, and reflect many different religious backgrounds and ethnicities. The clergy, staff, lay leadership and volunteers are focused on meeting the diverse spiritual, social and intellectual needs of our members.
How Can I Get Involved? We offer a warm and inviting atmosphere in which you can expand and explore your Jewish life. There are many ways to become involved in the PTS community. We're ready to connect you with worship services, programs, friendship groups and classes that meet your needs.
How Can I Get to Know the Clergy? Our clergy want to know you and welcome you to PTS. Please stop by to visit the clergy during the week. You can also schedule an appointment by calling (650) 697-2266. Or be less formal: Introduce yourself during Shabbat services!
How Do I Become a Member? All Jews, or those with Jewish partners, are welcome to become members of PTS. To learn more, please contact Sandy Silverstein, Executive Director, at ssilverstein@sholom.org.
Membership Philosophy
May the door to this synagogue be wide enough to receive all who hunger for love, all who are lonely for fellowship. May it welcome all who have cares to unburden, thanks to express, hopes to nurture. May the door of this synagogue be narrow enough to shut out pettiness and pride, envy and enmity. May its threshold be no stumbling block to young or straying feet. May it be too high to admit complacency, selfishness and harshness. May this synagogue be, for all who enter, the doorway to a richer and more meaningful life --The Siddur for Reform Jewish Prayer
Peninsula Temple Sholom was founded half a century ago to meet the spiritual needs of the diverse Jewish community located on the north Peninsula. We view the synagogue in all of its classical functions:
Beit Tefilah - House of Worship Beit Midrash - House of Study Beit Knesset - House of Community
Each function is important, and none outweighs another. We place an emphasis on membership and value the many ways in which members enrich the experience of belonging to the Temple. We see membership as the doorway to a spiritual life in community with other members.
We welcome those seeking a new place to worship and try to integrate them into Peninsula Temple Sholom activities. Our doors are open to interfaith couples and to people exploring a new life in Judaism. Among our members you will find parents whose preschoolers are getting their first taste of Jewish education. At the other end of the spectrum, we have empty-nesters who are continuing a life of Jewish study and community involvement.
We invite you to experience Peninsula Temple Sholom and see what keeps our members here for generations.
