I hope that you had a wonderful summer and have saved some energy for a new and exciting year at PTS Religious School. We had a very busy time, working hard to prepare for the return of our 370 students. I would like to share with you some of our major accomplishments:
1. We hired a Full Time Youth Director -- After conducting a two-month search, in August we hired Lianna Lifson as our new Youth Director. Lianna and I, along with teen representatives, almost immediately started planning youth programming.
2. Introducing New Curricula -- A team of parents and teachers worked hard this summer to recreate the entire Holidays and Jewish Ethics curricula as part of the NESS (Nurturing Excellence in Synagogue Schools) initiative. This year we are planning to implement these new curricula based on a spiral concept that will aid in the elimination of repetition.
3. New Professional Development Sessions -- Our Religious School staff members have committed to attending 25 hours of professional development sessions this coming school year. These sessions will focus on a variety of subjects such as classroom management, working with students with special learning needs, using new teaching methods, etc. These sessions will be sponsored and facilitated by the NESS and Special Learning initiatives.
Storytime with Sandra
Beginning October 10, we will hold monthly Sunday story times for Kindergarten thru Second Graders in our Religious School's Hirschberg Family Library. There will be two sessions: 9:45-11:00 AM and 11:45 AM-1:00 PM.
At the sessions, Sandra Feder will read a story and then lead a discussion. Students also will have an opportunity to check out books.
We need volunteers--two per session -- to help with the book checkout and to re-shelve returned books. Please contact Jackie in the Religious School office if you are able to help.
Library dates are Oct. 10, Nov. 14, Dec. 12, Jan. 9, Feb. 13, Mar. 13 and May 8.
The PTS Religious School staff wishes you Shanah Tovah -- Happy and Healthy New Year.
