Preschool Year Ends; Not Too Late for Camp Sholom
May. 28, 2010
Preschool Notes, June 2010, by Cindy Common

Here we are at the close of another wonderful year at Preschool.

Walking through the quiet, empty halls, I can still hear the laughter and excited happy voices ringing throughout the building. Soon, our beautiful space will be filled once again with happy Sholom Campers!

This year, over 50 children are going on to Kindergarten, many of whom will be returning in September for Religious School. One of the most rewarding benefits of my job is witnessing the lifelong friendships that develop between children and parents, alike, as part of this wonderful Jewish community. A major strength of this community lies in the building of these strong relationships and the staff of this preschool is honored to play our part.

This year we were very fortunate to be the recipients of a grant through the Early Childhood Special Needs Initiative for an on-site Early Childhood Consultant. Every Monday during the school year the consultant, Stephanie Agnew, met with parents, observed in classrooms, and offered guidance to teachers. Families and staff alike have gained so much from her vast knowledge and expertise, and we are so happy to be receiving her services next year, as well.

Our very own Sandra Feder offered three Preschool Parent Discussion Groups during the school year on topics relating to Jewish values and holidays. The discussions were very well received by our parents who attended.

Thanks to the always-extraordinary efforts of our dedicated parent volunteers; event chairs; our Preschool Advisory Committee, chaired by Katie Levine; and our Preschool Parent Association, chaired by Marni Gerber and Ida Gruber, our many Preschool events have been successful and fun! Preschool families enjoyed a Welcome Brunch, Family Shabbat Dinner, Special Friends Day, Breakfast With Daddy, Pizza With Mommy, Jewish holiday celebrations, Book Fair, Bake Sale and more, thanks to the efforts of our enthusiastic and talented parents. My appreciation for all these parents who have contributed is infinite!

We sadly say goodbye to Katie Levine, who is ending her term, and we welcome Lauren Schlezinger as the new Preschool Advisory Committee Chair. We thank Katie for her years of support and dedication and look forward to working with Lauren!

Lauren's twin daughters are graduates of PTS Preschool.

Endless thanks to our wonderful clergy, Rabbis Feder and Ettlinger and Cantor Barry, for their support and involvement in the Preschool.

Their presence at all of the family functions and at our Preschool Shabbat every Friday morning is valued and appreciated by families, staff and preschoolers. Thanks also to Eran Vaisban and Sandy Alberico for their help and support, and putting up with the noise of music and children's not-always-"inside" voices every morning!

It's still not too late to register for Camp Sholom! Session 1 begins June 14 and Session 2 runs from July 12 to August 6. We look forward to a fun summer and another joyful and educational 2010-2011 school year!

Happy and healthy summer to all!
